We are always discussing supporting characters and I was thinking who are my favorites.  I was watching that voluntary marathon on soapnet and I saw an episode with Quentin, and I realized I really liked him. He was a good character for Nathan and I loved how he challenged Nate during his comeback. I miss him.

Who are your favs?

Hey Arpagian, I liked Q as well and was very sad that he was killed off of the show.  Like you, I thought he was good for Nathan, and certainly had a big part in "the comeback."

I'm assuming that you mean "minor" supporting characters, and if so, I want to say that I really like Glenda.  I thought that she was a really good friend to Lucas, encouraging him about his book as well as helping with trying to figure out who was in the hallway when Keith was shot.  I would have liked to have seen more of her, but I do understand that would have taken away from the Laley friendship somewhat, and we wouldn't have wanted that.

If we are going with "major" supporting characters, my favorite is Mouth.  I've just always liked him and think that he is a good friend to all of the core 5 and has good interactions with all of them.

Vicki :)

Hey, Vicki! You and I have something in common because Mouth is also my most favorite major supporting male character. Amongst all the major supporting characters: Mouth ranks up as the highest of them all for me, aside from Rachel Gatina. Like you, I think that Mouth has always had great interactions and friendships with all of the core 5 characters. To be honest, I feel that Mouth is truly the only major supporting character who has always had the best way of connecting with ALL of the core characters. For example, his individual friendships with Peyton, Lucas, and Nathan have always been great and genuine. I personally think that Mouth's relationship with Brooke has been the best of the friendships that he has with each of the core 5, though. It's just too bad that Mouth and Brooke no longer get to share scenes together that much anymore, nor do they have their great rapport between each other anymore like they once had in high school.

Hey Soapman, I do know that Mouth is your favorite major supporting character as I read many of your posts.  We have something more in common, as Rachel is also a favorite of mine for many reasons.

I totally agree with you and I've been loving Mouth and Nathan's scenes together in S6 and 7.  I think he has been a good friend to Nathan and I like the rapport between the two of them.  I loved his friendship with Brooke and I wish they would have kept that up more.  Their scenes together have been few and far between and I have missed it.

Nice talking with you :)

Vicki, it's great to chat with you, as well. What are your many reasons for Rachel being one of your favorite supporting characters? I am interested to know. My main reasons for liking Rachel so much is because of the certain diva-like, villainess element that she brings to the show. To me, the show needs a good diva villainess who is close to the same age as the core cast members, and Rachel definitely does that well. I also like the character a lot because I am a fan of DANNEEL HARRIS's work from when she appeared ONE LIFE TO LIVE before she started appearing on OTH.

I don't know why I am like this, but I find it much easier to get into characters on shows when I am already familiar with the actor's (who is playing the character) previous work from other shows, movies, etc. Does that make sense? Since I was also already familiar with and adjusted to Lee Norris's past work as an actor, I find it easier to accept him playing Mouth, and the same goes for when Chad Michael Murray played Lucas. I liked Chad when he was on DAWSON'S CREEK, and that made it easier for me to like him on OTH, too. I didn't LOVE his Lucas, character, but being familiar with Chad's previous work helped me to get into OTH.

As for Mouth and Brooke: yeah, it is too bad that the writers have let the rapport between these two characters just fall through the cracks along the way. I know that the characters have changed a lot since the end of season 4 and after the whole time jump, but it would still be nice to see consistency in Brooke and Mouth retaining their close friendship with each other.

Thanks Soapman!  I agree with your description of Rachel and even though she started out as a troublemaker, there was something about her that I liked.  She was the bad girl with the good heart and I loved it when she showed that.  She was a very good friend to Brooke when she and Peyton were on the outs, and she always let Brooke know when she was wrong.  She was also very sweet to Mouth and I loved their interaction.  Also, even though she was trying to go after Nathan, when she found out that Haley was pregnant, she was the first to tell Nathan what good parents they would be and gave him the push he needed to tell Haley that everything would be alright at the press conference when he was supposed to announce his intent to play at Duke.  I know she made a lot of mistakes, but IMO her heart was in the right place alot of the time.  With all of that said, I don't believe that she is the one behind Nathan's set up in the current storyline.  I could be wrong, but I just don't think so, and I'll be interested to see how this all plays out.

I also liked Danneel's work on OLTL, which is a favorite soap of mine.  She played the McBain boy's cousin very well and I enjoyed her character.

Sure that makes sense.  I'll admit that I'm not like that, but everyone looks at things differently and if that works for you, then that's great.

Again, I totally agree with you and even though I am loving Naley's current storyline, I am still a fan of Brooke and would love to see her friendship with Mouth redevelop this season.

I've definitely noticed that about you and I think it's quite interesting.  It goes to show how much you respect the actor and the acting, rather than just the character and the writing.  I think it means Harris, Norris, CMM and whatever other actors you feel this way about have really achieved a loyalty with their fans, that follows them wherever they go despite the project.  This is not to say you you never dislike them in something (especially, for instance, how you said you didn't "love" Lucas) but you find a worth in them that carries through.  Not all actors have that with their fans

Vicki, I like your thoughts and reasonings for why you like the Rachel character, and you even mentioned some things about her that I have forgetten about over the years. You are so right that she was there for Brooke many times, her heart was in the right place, and she did have a great friendship with Mouth. The Mouth and Rachel friendship is one thing that I have missed, and I really liked how those two hit off with each other. Speaking of Mouth becoming friends, this goes back to my thoughts on how Mouth so easily makes friends with almost all of the main and supporting characters (i.e. Rachel, Skills, Millicent, etc.)

As for Danneel Harris's work on OLTL, I really enjoyed her playing Shannon McBain on that soap, and through her work on the show - it's what helped me to really like her even better on OTH. The one thing that I hated is that OLTL did NOT give Danneel better storylines like she was given on OTH. Anyway, OLTL is one of my 3 favorite soaps, too, and it has been for over 10 years now. Out of my 3 favorite daytime soaps that I DVR, I always have to watch OLTL first and foremost because it is must-see for me.

About Brooke and Mouth again: I actually doubt that we viewers will get to see more of the Brooke-Mouth friendship this season because Brooke is too involved in stories with Alex and Julian. Personally, I can't stand the Alex character and I would definitely rather see Mouth involved more in Brooke's story than Alex. I know that this may not happen, but I still keep hoping that Alex will be written out of the show sometime this season.

Hey, DC! After I read your post, I began thinking that a lot of my loyalty to actors (whether they are movie or soap actors, etc) probably comes from my love of the daytime soap genre. As you know, the daytime genre has such a small talent pool that actors constantly transfer from one soap to the next. For me, when I am introduced to an actor on one show that I am watching, I generally grow accustomed to that actor if he or she catches my eye. When that actor transfers to another show that I also watch or does a different project, I keep my loyalty to that actor because they had previously won me over in their past work.

Like you stated, I truly don't always like actors in every project that he or she participates in, and this same thing has happened for me with a lot of actors. SHANNEN DOHERTY is one actress that I can think of as an example of this. While I love Shannen for her acting, there are certain projects of hers' that I didn't care for her in. I disliked Shannen's Brenda character on BH 90210, yet I absolutely Shannen's work as Prue on CHARMED. I was even disappointed when I learned that Shannen was leaving that show, and I wanted to stop watching the series because I felt that Shannen was the one "true, main star" of CHARMED. Thankfully, I was already invested in Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs from their work on CHARMED during the show's first 3 seasons, so I stuck with the show - even though Shannen was gone. While I missed Shannen in the latter part of the series, I still loved the show and watched it for the entire 8 seasons that it was on the air.

Thanks Soapman, l really do like Rachel and hope that she is somehow being a friend to the others with whatever she is doing with Dan right now.  I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I agree and thought that Shannon really complimented the boys well.  She was a breath of fresh air for the McBain family as the boys were a little on the somber side, especially John.  I wish they could have written more for her and kept her on the show, but then OTH wouldn't have gotten her and that would have been a shame.

Same here, with the other two being AMC and GH.  I have you beat though as I've been watching OLTL since it first started back in 1968, I believe.  I used to watch Dark Shadows as a young girl, and one day I turned it on and OLTL was on before it.  It was the first episode and I've watched it ever since.  I guess I'm giving my age away a little bit here, but that's okay, lol!  I think OLTL has such awesome storylines and amazing characters, and actors who portray them.  I won't get into too much here since this is a OTH board, but in the interest of that, the Kyle (Tim) storyline is quite interesting.  I was a little turned off at first, but it has gotten much better.  But yes, OLTL is a must see for me as well!

I hope we do get to see more of their friendship and I do not like the character of Alex either.  I hope she is written out soon as I think it's a waste of airtime that would be better spent on someone else, such as Mouth, Skills, etc.

Again, nice chatting with you :)
