Loved all of his stuff last night, as he shined in all his scenes with Naley, and it was nice to see him have stuff with Quinn and David as well.  I know Soapman agrees because we've talked about it---but how nice is it to finally see Jamie in relation to him as Naley's kid, as opposed to what they tried to do all too often last season?  Jamie doesn't work that way, as he's Nathan and Haley's kid first and foremost and is there to further them along, not have separate stories that don't include him relating to his family dynamic.

As Soapman said, it's very refreshing to see him just be a regular kid again this year, and I thought they totally nailed all of his stuff to perfection last night.  All of his worry and fear over his parents was very realistic for a kid his age who had just witnessed his mother being hauled away in front of him, and his aunt and uncle splitting up as well!!!  Jamie is another thing they've gotten right this season, and its been so great to see!!!  smile

I think the character of Jaime is exactly the way he needs to be.  He is swifter then a lot of 7 year olds and he knows whats up.  In a lot of ways he the moral center of the Scott family because they all gage their actions by how he would be affected.  That is what you do when you have kids so bravo to Mark for being true to the family dynamic.

Exactly----as I've said in another thread, despite the over the top stories and characters that this show can portray, the NHJ dynamic is the most realistic thing OTH has going for them, and it's definitely huge props to Mark and the writers for getting back to the root of this show with Jamie and his family this season and writing for him as a kid!!!

the NHJ dynamic is the most realistic thing

The dynamic may be but there's a lot of things that aren't realistic...

-marrying in high school

-having a baby in high school

-leaving school to go on a tour while in high school

-remaining married to your high school babydaddy

-joining the NBA

-being the victim of a public scandal

The basic issues of love, marital challenges, parenting, dealing with shady people are all realistic things to be dealing with and I like that they are facing those things.  But there are aspects of their lives that have been anything but realistic and stray so far from the norm that make them the most unrealistic characters on the show, in my opinion.  Doesn't mean I love them any less, though.

While not the norm, many high school aged couples do marry.

Your kidding right? Have you checked the latest stats on high school girls having babies? While you are at that, check how many middle school aged girls are having babies.

-leaving school to go on a tour while in high school

While certainly not the norm, there are and have been many younger talented children that either postpone high school or travel with tutors while on tour. Turn on the Disney channel once in awhile, you will see many child stars that do the very same.

-remaining married to your high school babydaddy

Again, the statistics show that the majority of high school marriages fail, so do the majority of adult aged marriages....this is what makes the Naley story special and the center of the OTH universe as they have been for several seasons now.

-joining the NBA

The current NBA is littered with quite a few players that have successfully made the jump from high school to the pro ranks, some even have been drafted #1. Seeing that Nathan completed four years of college and was a special player, him making the NBA certainly is NOT unrealistic.

Puh-leese, have you ever gone through a supermarket check-out? Have you ever seen a National Enquirer and the like? There are plenty of celebs that have experienced public scandal.

Do you bother to think before you write these responses? Come on, you claim to be a journalist, yet you never have seen where a celeb has been involved in a public scandal??? That is, what is unbelievable!

Unrealistic? What's unrealistic is that you believe that the above is unrealistic. Have you ever read a newspaper? Have you ever logged onto a computer? But whatever....you certainly are entitled to your own opinion. L.O.L.

Noles, yep, you know that I completely agree with you on how Jamie is being written this season. I hope that the current style of writing for Jamie will continue for the remainder of the season and onwards. It will continue, won't it?

Arpagian, yeah, Jamie is the one thing that the writers have gotten right this season and that is the great thing. To me, it's too bad that the writers have NOT gotten it right with characters like Alex and Julian, though. I guess that the OTH writers can only get certain things right each season, and there always has to be something that they can't get right. LOL!

Hey, DC! I agree and disagree with some of your thoughts here.

First, I do agree that it is unrealistic for high school sweethearts to remain married for a long time because I have seen this in my own life firsthand. I know of one couple who married each other during my Junior year in high school (the couple were Seniors, at that time), yet they didn't stay married for any more than 2 or 3 years. They were divorced a few years after they graduated from high school, so I completely agree that it is unrealistic to see high schools couples remain married for a lengthy period of time like Haley and Nathan have on OTH.

As far as having a baby in high school, I very much DISAGREE with you on this one because there were several girls during my Senior year of high school who were pregnant. Just 6 girls in my Senior class were pregnant during Graduation, and 5 other girls had done give birth to their respective children before we graduated. There were even several underclassmen girls who were also pregnant at the same time as my final year of high school. Heck, one of the freshmen girls during my Senior year delivered her baby just 2 months after the new school year started and she had to drop out of school to take care of her baby. The fact that she delivered 2 months after classes started shows that she was screwing around with boys and having careless, casual sex when she was just 13 years old and in the 8th grade!

Anyway, after I graduated high school, one of my first cousins finished up 3 years after I did, and he told me that the pregnancy rate at our school had tripled during his final school year. I am sure that now in 2009, the pregnancy rate of girls in high schools around the world is probably over 50%. All in all, it is totally REALISTIC for girls to have babies while in high school.

Soap, thanks for the reply.  I have a quick question for you.  You said in a reply above to someone else that the Jamie writing is the "one thing" they're getting right this season.  Do you really think there's only one thing or was that an exaggeration?

Regarding pregnant girls in high school: I don't know of anyone in my high school that was pregnant and I don't know anyone who had pregnant girls in their school, either.  I realize they exist, and in larger numbers than ever before, but as far as I can tell, it's still not the norm for our society.  And if it's not the norm, it's not reflecting reality, hence me saying it was unrealistic.  That's just my take on it!  =)
